What is the history of After Hours?
We're parents too! Anyone who has worked in the medical field or has children of their own knows that there is a great need for children in this community to be seen by qualified professionals when their Pediatricians' offices are closed. We opened After Hours in August 2001 to address this need. We are the only 'after hours' pediatric urgent care facility in the state of Missouri, and the welcoming response from the community has been phenomenal.
The number of patient visits doubled between the first year and second, and has increased 25% each year since. Families are thrilled with the quality of care, the short waiting time and the low cost (their office co-pay). They receive prompt evaluation and treatment. This may include medications or simply reassurance, thereby avoiding a trip to the Emergency Room.
Our patients’ primary physicians are very satisfied by how efficiently we communicate with them, thus enabling them to maintain complete medical records. We have built both sites on positive referrals: not just from patients and their parents, but from the numerous pediatricians who refer their own patients here.
What services does After Hours offer?
We offer services similar to those at a pediatrician's office, outside of regular working hours. After Hours Pediatric Urgent Care offers treatment of minor injuries and illness, lacerations, nebulizer treatments for asthmatic patients, and temporary casting and splinting for orthopedic injuries. Flu shots for children and their families are available during flu season and the center provides onsite laboratory testing for rapid flu, strep and mononucleosis. We are contracted with Quest Laboratory for dally routine or stat pick ups. Comprehensive Sports Physicals are also offered, and we offer the services of an on-call facial plastic surgeon as well as a pediatric orthopedic group, should patients require them.
Are there any services that After Hours does NOT offer?
We don't do well-child care visits, nor do we do well-child immunizations. We don't provide primary care and we don't have walk-in x-ray availability.
